This is a 26-week, fully remote research study that documents how people use ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets and ScarAway Scar Gel on hypertrophic and keloid scars. By submitting standardized photos over time, you help build a real-world photographic record of how these products are used at home.
You'll submit standardized photos of your scar weekly for the first 12 weeks, then every two weeks if you continue through the 26-week extension, along with short surveys on scar appearance, product experience, and adherence at Weeks 4, 8, 12, 18, and 24. Everything happens from home using your smartphone. No clinic visits are required, and the study team reviews your photos and can request a quick resubmission if one isn't usable.
Complete a short screening questionnaire and submit photos of your scar for review by the study's principal investigator. If you qualify, complete electronic informed consent, including a separate authorization for use of your photos, through the Alethios platform.
Verify your identity, review standardized photography training, and submit practice photos for approval. At Week 0, receive your assigned ScarAway product, submit baseline photos, and complete a baseline questionnaire through the Alethios app before starting product use.
Submit standardized photos of your scar weekly through Week 12, then every two weeks if you continue into the optional extension through Week 26. Complete brief scar appearance, product experience, and adherence surveys through the Alethios app at Weeks 4, 8, 12, 18, and 24.
Submit final standardized photos and complete a final questionnaire at Week 12, or Week 26 if you continue the extension. Earn up to $95 in Amazon gift cards.
ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets and Scar Gel are widely used at home for the appearance of hypertrophic and keloid scars, but there is limited standardized, high-quality photographic documentation of how scars change over time during everyday use. This study tracks scar appearance and participant-reported outcomes, like comfort, texture, and satisfaction, using structured photos and questionnaires collected weekly through Week 12 and every two weeks through Week 26.
